My Journey to Mentorship

As a first year student at Butler University, I found myself lacking a sense of belonging and community. Unfortunately, I struggled to find people I could connect to until I stepped foot in the Efroymson Diversity Center in the basement of Atherton Union. There, I discovered a passion for community and connection. Now, I am eager to provide community and guidance to younger students through the Multicultural Mentorship Program.

Last year, I mentored two first year students. As a mentor, I met with my mentees throughout the year to check-in and offer advice about academics, living away from home or simply just to talk about our interests!

Most of our meetings took place over Zoom. Here is a moment from our last Zoom call.

A Zoom meeting with my mentee Kiara Somerville. We talk about managing burnout, prepping for finals and going home for break.
